How to use RedenFlow

One job, filmed from start to finish: an empty project, sixteen photographs of a fruit line, and a model that counts oranges as they go past. Every clip below is the real application on a MacBook Air.

  1. Step 1

    Make a project

    Name it, say where it should live, and list the things you want to find. One class is enough to start with.

  2. Step 2

    Bring the pictures in

    Drag in a folder of photos, or hand it a video and say how many frames to take. Fewer frames means less to label; more means the model sees more of what can happen.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the thing you care about

    This is the part that decides whether the job takes an afternoon or a week. Click an object and the outline is drawn for you. Press Enter to keep it. Most of the time you are agreeing with it rather than drawing.

  4. Step 4

    Make more of the pictures you have

    Flips, rotations, crops, colour and blur, each one a copy of what you already labelled. Sixteen labelled photographs became a hundred and eighty one here.

  5. Step 5

    Press train and walk away

    Pick a model size and a number of passes. One number tells you whether it is working, and the app says in words whether it is still moving or has settled. This run took fifty three minutes on a MacBook Air, using the Mac's own graphics.

  6. Step 6

    Say what it should do

    Not just export a file: choose the job. Show a live window, count what goes past, write a spreadsheet, keep a recording. Then pick where it runs and what it watches, and it writes a folder you can hand to somebody else.

  7. Step 7

    Draw the line it counts across

    Drag a line over the picture, where the things go past. Anything that crosses it is counted once, however long it stays in view. Name the classes to count, or leave it empty and it counts everything.

  8. Step 8

    And then it runs

    That folder, pointed at a video file. It finds the fruit, follows each one, and counts them as they cross the line. Nothing here went to a server: the model is on the machine and so are the pictures.

No notebook, no cloud upload, no configuration file. The free plan covers three projects and one training run, with no card and no time limit, so you can walk this whole path before deciding anything.
